The objects I make often have a “root” that grows from something in my surroundings or from my body.  By engaging with the small details of a whole; like the intimacy of an armpit or the hem of a T-shirt, I can play with the formal aspects.  The object can be transformed by its defining patterns, scents or textures.  Like theater props, my objects often have distinct "sides," creating a level of expectation or anticipation for continuity and a surprise or disappointment in the actuality.  The prop-like quality juxtaposed with objects that are derived from the everyday suggests the theatricality in daily life.
